Karen Kwon, Ph.D., is the research and special projects editor at Science News. Previously, she was an associate editor at Optics & Photonics News and a 2020 AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellow at Scientific American.

Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Karen earned her M.A. from the Science, Health & Environmental Reporting Program (SHERP) at New York University and Ph.D. in chemistry from Columbia University, in addition to M.S. and B.S. from Korea University. Karen’s writings appeared in Scientific American, Slate, Inside Science, IEEE Spectrum, Massive Science, Scienceline and more.
